Abstract

In this article former editors of the Puerto Rican Journal of Psychology (reps, in Spanish) present their: (a) vision of the journal’s development, (b) editorial objectives, achievements, facilitators and barriers to achieving them, (c) evaluation of the journal’s impact, and (d) suggestions for strengthening the journal. Results include data from 14 interviews with former editors-in-chief, editorial board members, special edition editors and 16 editorials. They highlighted the development of the journal and its impact on the discipline, teaching and research, which is mainly promoted by editors’ expertise, commitment and work. Important barriers were reported by the editors such as, the effort and time the task requires, the lack of training, and the absence of a publishing culture. The Psychological Association of Puerto Rico (APPR in Spanish) is mentioned as an enabler and as a barrier. Numerous recommendations for reps’ development are included.
