Resumen

The aims of this study were to develop and validate a scale to measure organizational commitment. The developed scale was validated with a sample of 250 Puertorican employees in which 150 (60.2%) were women and 98 (39.2%) men. All subjects were employed, which was the criteria for their participation. The results suggest, through factor analysis technique, that variability of the scale was caused by three factors: one which measures affective commitment, a second measuring continuance (necessary) commitment, and a third one measuring normative (moral) commitment as Meyer and Allen (1991) proposed. The reliability coefficients ranged from .63 to 83.
